Australia & Ashes 2017 - 2018 - Day 41 - 2nd January

Day 41

We spent a very quiet day at home today. Richard had work to get on with and I did nothing, which was OK because we were all going out tonight to meet Nigel, Bridget and Rebecca for a meal we had booked at the Cafe Sydney.

So, that evening as soon as Natalie the baby sitter arrived, Richard, Amy and I got a taxi into the city. Alfie was meeting us straight from work. We had arranged to meet first in the Custom House Bar which is directly below the Cafe Sydney.

Located in Macquarie Place in Sydney, the Customs House Bar is the perfect spot for a pre-show dinner or meeting with friends. Although we were not actually eating here, the Customs House Bar's menus have taken inspiration from modern Australian cuisine. It is an ideal place to meet up before a night out in Sydney, or just to stay and dine here.

Alfie was there waiting for us and on the very next table were Nigel, Bridget and Rebecca. Not knowing one another they had been sitting in total oblivion of the other. Not to worry, introductions were soon made and we ordered drinks and started to catch up.

After a few drinks here we decided to go up to the restaurant. Cafe Sydney captures the essence of Sydney from its amazing location on the rooftop of Customs House with spectacular harbour views, delicious food, an outdoor terrace, cocktail lounge and a relaxed, contemporary interior. From our table we had a magnificent view of Circular Quay, the Bridge and harbour.

After a magnificent meal we went on the short walk to the Opera House Bar for some late night drinks and the atmosphere was magical.

All too soon the evening was over and we headed our separate ways home after a great evening out.
