Australia 2017 - Day 31 - 25th March

Day 31

Took it easy today after that great evening last night.  Plan for today was for Justin and me to meet Adam Woods and go to the first 'Footie' match of the season.  Sydney Swans (Swannies) v Port Adelaide (Port). Australian rules football. Seemed strange for me, about to cheer on the Swans against The Port!!

So sometime in the afternoon we set off for the SCG.  Justin had chosen to drive in this time and we had arranged to meet Adam in the Captain Cook hotel near the ground.

After a couple of drinks here we walked over to the ground and took our seats.  It was a sea of red inside, at this stage the Port supporters were not in evidence.

The match was a lively affair and the first quarter was dominated by the Swannies who seemed to be heading for a comfortable victory.  Things changed in the second quarter as Adelaide gradually grew into the game and they totally dominated the last two quarters to easily win the game 110 to 82.  At this point the Port fans emerged and were clearly in good spirits with that result.

A bitter disappointment for the Swannie fans but probably an early season wake up call for the team.  On the plus side, I am getting more familiar with the game and understanding it more.

On the way through the park back to the car there was a spectacular coloured sky which I have tried to capture below.
