Sweden & Oresund Bridge - Day 3 - November 21st

Day 3

Well it was a really smooth crossing, like the proverbial; Mill Pond.  Great night's sleep and then up bright and early and getting ready for breakfast.

We had a buffet breakfast with loads to choose from, from continental cheeses and breads, Danish Pastries, universal cereals and full English breakfast.  We ate leisurely and drank fruit juices and Earl Grey tea.

After breakfast  it was back to the cabin to pack before we entered port.  When that was done we had a walk outside where it was a little breezy, but not cold at all.

Early morning dark skies over the ship

Heading into Amsterdam
Whilst waiting for the ship to dock we took it easy in one of the lounge areas watching the ship heading into Amsterdam.

We were near the front again getting off the boat and soon headed off through the suburbs of Amsterdam intending to go on a scenic route through to Germany.  What started off as quaint and nice soon became booring once we exited the city. I have never seen such a flat place devoid of hills, trees, livestock and buildings of any note.

Flat countryside with more trees than in most areas.  We saw plenty cut down though.
The most interesting things we saw before the German border were wind turbines and wind farms,  It seems they have turned over a lot of land to these.  But you soon get fed up of seeing field after fioeld of these.

Although the weather took a turn for the worse as we approached Germany we were very glad to cross the border in the hope of experiencing more interesting scenery.

Grey skies but who cares?  We have arrived in Germany
Meppen, first place we stopped at in Germany

Kevin took over the driving from here and we still had a further 135 miles to go to the holtel so we went on the Motorbahn No.1.  I have never seen cars being driven so fast anywhere else in the world. Apparently there is no limit in the fast lane and don't they go for it!!

Fast cars on fast roads in Germany

After a couple of hours we arrived at Heidenau, the little town where we were to be staying overnight.  We found the hotel easy enough and also spotted a delightful bakery across the road that we would be visiting tomorrow to get provisions for our drive to Sweden.

After checking in at the hotel we were shown across to the Garden House, a charming building set in a garden of trees where our room was to be found.

After relaxing at the hotel for a couple of hours we got ready to go out and walked across to the main hotel to join the other guests for dinner. It was a great setting and the meal was first class and incredibly inexpensive.

So, another day over and tomorrow we will make our way out of Germany, right through Denmark and over the Oresund bridge to Sweden
