Iceland November 2017 - Day 1 - 30th October

Day 1

Well it's finally arrived. I am preparing to go to Iceland for a few days with my brother Kevin and my niece Abi. It's Abi's 40th birthday today and she has always wanted to see the Northern Lights so we are going to Iceland to see if her wish can be granted.

The day has started off perfectly with a beautiful sunrise over Bassaleg once again.  It feels like I'm on holiday without even leaving the apartment.

Drinking morning coffee looking out over this!!
We are flying with BA from Terminal 5 at Heathrow to Keflavik where we will pick up a four wheel drive vehicle at the airport and then head off towards our wooden mountainside lodge which will be home for the next few days.  We will stop en-route for enough supplies to last us the week.

We will be staying at Brekka Lodge near Mosfellsbaer and the images below are part of the reason for booking this lodge for our stay, although I think these must have been taken in spring/autumn and we are going at the start of the winter so there should be a lot more snow around.

Of course we will be keeping our fingers crossed that we will witness the Northern lights just as in the photograph below.

I just hope that we are lucky enough to witness them just like this.

The boarding passes are now printed so there is little more to do now before we leave.  Some last minute chores in Newport then back to finalise the packing before getting some sleep before an early rise.  I will be picking Kevin up at 3.00am. in the morning and then on to Abi for 3.30.

More from me tomorrow
