Day 1
Kev came over early this morning ready to take me up to Heathrow. We loaded the car and set off at about 8.30. We half expected delays because of Storm Doris with even threats of the Second Severn Crossing being closed. The first Severn Bridge had already been closed.
Our fears were ill founded though as, weather wise we proceeded without a hitch. However, just after we passed junction 17 heading east we noticed a big plume of black smoke ahead.
As approached it we saw what was making the smoke, It was a car transporter on the opposite carriageway on fire. It had six cars on board as well. We pulled into the left hand lane to get as far away from it as possible and as we passed it the heat that we felt in the car was incredible.
We were lucky, because soon after we passed through, the motorway was closed in both directions.
We could have been caught in this |
However, we made it through OK and I am now in the Etihad lounge enjoying a glass of Champagne waiting to board my flight to Abu Dhabi.
I'll post more when I am there
